Leadership: To Lead is To Serve
In a democratic way, a leader is chosen by trust, knowledge, and capability. The point of the chosen procedure is to choose a capable man to run an organisation, and in other word is to serve. So we all should know that leadership, unlike the old day, is not reserve for the elites but to offer to anybody that is capable and possess of leadership skill. The word “leadership” is should be well-known to all of us, but do we all really understand it completely. Please don’t take that word lightly. Leadership can be one word, but its meaning is really broad, it is used in all field such as management, military, and governance, but the weight are different. Unlike, running a company or an organisation, a state’s leadership is considered as the top of the top of leadership that should be well-considered. Failure to choose it properly will result in destruction consequences.
In the state affair, choosing a capable leader is really a difficult and most considered process. It is way more complicated than choosing a company CEO; even though, it is also challenging. Since the state affair is really broad which it will affects to all aspect to the inferiors or follow citizen in socially, economically, and morality. They all will be affected by any decision. As a state leader, the person does not has to be genius and very wise to run the country, but he/she should be able to take all responsibility of his/her citizen well-being all in socially, economically, and morality. Because as a state’s leader, he/her actually serving the people or his/her citizens but not to lead. If he or she think that way he or she will understand and take his/her responsibility seriously. If he/she does not, he/she will possibly fall into a tyranny or dictator categories. So the leader has both obligation and responsibility. The obligations are to solve problems and fulfill any promises that have been promised before he/she got elected. On the other hand, responsibility is considered as a right hand of the leader. He/she has to take full responsibility of all his activities, ordinances, and orders that he/she has put in practice. When these two obligations work well, there a good leader tend to be emerged. There is no such a thing of perfection. No body is perfect, so does the leader. People are not asking for a perfect person to lead them or to serve them, but they just need a capable man to guide them to prosperity and success of the nation. A case in point, Cambodia current society. There are robberies, murdering, and land grabbing going on in the society, and the government fails to stop the problem. In this case, if we look at it closely, we see that the Cambodian people trust the government and gave their support to elect the elected cabinet to serve them. By doing that people expect government to fulfill its obligation. In this case, people expect a safe society where is no fear and killing. So when there is fear arose everywhere in the society, it is translatable that the government fail to fulfill its job. When they fail to do their job, as in the company, the government should be fired from its current position and let the other person to do the job instead. This is might be a best example to explain both the obligation and responsibility of a leader.
Please make your own consideration.
